Go back in time and make some biscuits with this recipe from Grandma's recipe box. And the children get involved in the kitchen with you. Take the time to meet with them on older or deceased family members turn to speak to your baking session in a history lesson. Wanda's Ginger CreamCookies are made with molasses and are covered with ice. Children especially love ice cream cookies.
Wanda GINGER CREAM COOKIES
Cup soft shortening 04:01
02:01 cup sugar
1 small egg
02:01 cup molasses
1 teaspoon baking soda
02:01 cup hot water
2 cups flour
2.1 tsp salt
1 teaspoon ginger
2.1 teaspoon ground cloves
2.1 tsp cinnamon
Mix shortening, sugar, egg and molasses. Stir in soda, the hot in the water has been dissolved. Sift together flour, salt, ginger, cloves and cinnamonand add the other ingredients. Chill dough. Drop onto lightly greased baking sheet. Bake until set (when touched lightly with finger tip remains almost no imprint). While slightly warm, frost with the following frosting.
Modern Day Tip: spray the measuring cup with nonstick cooking spray before measuring the molasses. This makes it much easier to keep the molasses from the action.
Glaze:
Cup sifted powdered sugar 04:03
4.1 tsp vanilla
1 tablespoon milk orCream
Blend all ingredients, stir smooth. Add a few drops of milk or cream when the ice is too thick.
