There is simply nothing like grandma's old fashion yeast rolls and biscuits. They are not hard to do, yes you can do it. Try this recipe very simple Sweet Cream Biscuits used many years ago by grandmothers and they are delicious. The corn flour cookies recipe is from an old childhood friend and grandmother is an interesting combination of flour and corn flour. The Homemade Yeast Rolls recipe is from my mother-in-law.
Sweet creamCOOKIES
2 cups sifted flour
1 cup sweet cream
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon butter
2 teaspoons baking powder
Sift together the flour type, salt and baking powder in a bowl. Cut in butter. Add cream and mix quickly. Roll out dough on floured surface and cut with biscuit cutter. Bake at 400 degrees for 12 minutes.
Corn flour COOKIES
This recipe is an old friend from childhood.
2 / 3 cup yellow cornmeal
2 / 3 cup milk
2 / 3 cup siftedFlour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 / 2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons sugar
1 / 4 cup shortening
Enjoy corn flour in milk for 10 minutes.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
In a medium bowl, sift flour, baking powder, salt and sugar. Cut in the shortening until the mixture resembles dry corn flour. Add the cornmeal mixture and mix everything together. Drop by teaspoon on a greased baking sheet. Bake at 400 degrees about 10 minutes until lightly browned.
GrandmaWilson HOMEMADE YEAST ROLLS
This recipe is from my mother-in-law.
2 cups warm water (not hot)
2 pkgs dry yeast
1 / 2 cup sugar
2 teaspoons salt
1 / 4 cup soft shortening or liquid
1 egg, beaten
6 1 / 2 to 7 cups flour
Put warm water in a mixing bowl and alternate yeast, sugar, salt and egg and mix well. Add 4 cups flour and mix with a large spoon. Slowly add remaining flour and by the hand until mixture is not sticky or dry. With a clean tea toweland allow to rise twice as large. Punch down the dough and make into rolls about 1 1/2-inch in diameter. Dough to rise again. Bake in preheated oven 375 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes.
